Are Your Wedding Flowers in Scale With Each Other?

A scale is something that measures an object in comparison to something else.  A flower, leaf or container is only large or small when it is compared to something else.  The elements of a wedding bouquet or arrangement need to be in scale with each other.  The bouquet or arrangement also needs to be in scale with its environment.

We can look at scale in 4 ways

• flowers in scale with their containers
• flowers in scale with other flowers
• flowers in scale with foliage
• a bouquet in scale with its environment

The container that you choose for your arrangement is very important because its size and shape determines which flowers you will use.  Large, dominant flowers look better in bulky containers.  Fine, delicate flowers go very well with intricate, smaller containers.

Your flowers need to be in scale with each other as well.  This does not mean that you can't use different sizes of flowers, but extremes should be avoided.  For example, very large, full-sized sunflowers would not look right beside a cluster of tiny, delicate lily-of-the-valley.

The flowers you choose should be in scale with your foliage.  Again, this does not rule out different sizes, but extremes are distracting.  If, for instance, you have a rose bud arranged in front of a large banana leaf, it simply won't look good.  It would not be in scale and would look completely unbalanced.

An arrangement or bouquet needs to be in scale with its environment.  Think hotel lobby and a tiny bud vase.  The flowers would not be noticed.  They would be lost in all the space.  Now think very large arrangement with numerous birds of paradise and protea squeezed into a little hospital room.  The huge design will make this small room look even smaller.  This combination simply does not make sense.

A few more tips to keep in mind are that shiny or course textured flowers, foliage and containers look larger than they are because they attract your attention.  Similarly bright, dark, and warm colors catch your eye more than dull, light, and cool colors and therefore look larger.

When you arrange your own wedding flowers, remember to keep your flowers, foliage, and containers in scale with one another.  the overall look will be much more pleasing to the eye if you do.

It is a mechanical resonance that occurs which has been initiated by the electric field. The resonant frequency is a function of the physical shape and size of the crystal.

Thus when a voltage is applied, the crystal compresses to cancel out this applied voltage. Once it has compressed (reducing the voltage across the crystal), it is under mechanical stress to expand (after the voltage across it is reduced by its compression) than to compress, so it will do that. As it expands the voltage across it gets larger and the process occurs at its natural frequency (kind of like hitting a tuning fork).

You can model it as an RLC circuit.

LCD liquid crystal display

A LCD  liquid crystal display crystal is a fine panel, used to exhibit information for electronic road, as text, images and videos. If the applied tension to the surface is big, the molecules of liquid crystal in the center of the layer assume helical form almost completely, and the polarization of the incident light doesn't turn as it passes through the layer of liquid crystal, this light will be, then, mainly polarized perpendicular to the second filter, and, therefore, he/she will appear the black pixel.

When controlling the applied tension in the whole layer of liquid crystal in each pixel, the light can be authorized to pass in varied amounts constituting different ash levels.

The optical effect of a device twisted nematic in the tension and in the state, it is much less dependent of the variations of the thickness of the device than of the tension in the turned off state.

Due to this, these devices are usually operated among crossed polarizadores in such a way that they appear diamonds without tension (the eye is much more sensitive to the variations of the dark state than to the brilliant state).

These devices can also be operated among parallel polarizadores, I marry in that the clear states and darkness are inverted. The tension of state turned off darkness in this configuration appears spotted, however, due to small variations of thickness in the whole device.

As much the material of liquid crystal as the material of alignment layer it contains composed ionic. If an electric field of a specific polarity is applied by a long period of time, this ionic material is attracted for the surface and it degrades the acting of the device.

That is avoided, through the application of an alternating current or inverting the polarity of the electric field, as the device is the addressee (the answer of the layer of liquid crystal is identical, independently of the polarity of the applied field).

Brief history

• 1962: Richard Williams, of RCA discovered that the liquid crystals had some characteristics interesting optical electro, generating stripe-patterns in a fine layer of material of liquid crystal through the application of a voltage. • 1964: George H. [13] in 1971, FERGASON ILIXCO'S (now LXD Incorporated) company produced the first base LCDs on the TN-effect, that soon substituted the types of DSM, due to improvements of tensions, of operation and smaller consumption of energy.

You do have to be an artist, digital or manual, to create the masters. This is basic miniature sculpting. In short the process is:

For metal and resin figures:
- Master figure is made from an epoxy putty (most figures including the GW ones) or polymer clay (some sculptors at Rackham, Warcrow, Fenryll, etc.) on the same size as the finished figure or
- A digital model is created by an artist in a 3D CAD/design program and printed to the correct size, cleaned and copied into a mouldmaking resistant material (some Reaper CAV models and some space ship models. Lately also some aliens at 3D miniatures)
- A model is made in various materials (cars, ships, tanks, etc).

A mould is make from the master with which master copies are made. These are then used to create the production moulds. These moulds are then used in centrifugal casting machines to cast the final figures. Cut loose, clean, package and ready for sale. Larger resin pieces may get handcast. Some companies have specialised machines for this.

Plastic figures are done differently. The master is made in various materials, often three times the final size. The master is scaned and a mould is cut directly into metal. This is then used in plastic injection casting machines. Much more expensive moulds and therefore better suited for very large productions.

Casting Resin, Resin Casting, Metal Casting

Metal casting is known and loved for the high temperatures, glowing molten metal, and the possibility to make nearly anything. Metal and their alloys are not the only things that can be used in casting. Casting in plastic, most notably resin casting, is becoming popular with artists and jewelers looking for something odd and unique.

Resin casting does not involve the use of furnaces, crucibles, or casting sand. In fact all one really needs for resin casting is a mold, some resin (of course), and time.

There are actually two forms of resin casting. The first kind is the one that more closely resembles metal casting, uses a mold and even gates and runners if it's complex enough. The second type of resin casting is simply incasing an object in the resin. An example of this is using an ice cube tray and placing an object like a small pendant in one of the tray's cavities and then filling it with the resin solution. After the resin dries you can pop it out of the tray. The pendant is now encased in hard plastic. This form is usually employed by jewelers and crafty moms but tends to be fun for everyone no matter age or experience. At the very least it's a great way to get rid of some of the clutter around your house and disguise it as art. You can cast leaves, coins, and other objects in the resin to make anything from charms to magnets.

Resin casting using mold is generally used by those who work with models and miniatures. Resin casting is a great way to make several pieces at once so you can avoid shelling out money you may not have and waiting several weeks for delivery of your items. Who has that kind of time anymore?

Like metal casting, resin casting will require you to build a mold. If you are fortunate enough then you can easily find pre-made molds, especially if you are working with miniatures. If you don't feel like buying these pre-made molds or just like doing things the hard way, then you will have to make the mold yourself. Don't worry, it's still fun.

You will need to find a molding box this will hold the rubber that will be used to make the actual mold until it dries. Many who work with smaller objects find that working with toy building blocks to create this molding block work extremely well and will provide added convenience. A wooden box will work as well, of course. The box, or flask, will not have a top or bottom, just the four walls. Place molding clay at the bottom of the flask and insert your original. Make sure to add a way for the resin plastic to enter the mold. This cup or funnel should be placed at the top of the mold. You are going to prepare the silicone rubber and catalyst which will be used to create the mold. Follow the instructions on the labels since each type will vary. A process called degassing can be used which will remove all the air bubbles from the rubber. This is a fun process involving a vacuum pump.

Slowly pour the rubber into the flask, covering the original. This can take up to a day to dry, so be patient. Remove the molding clay and repeat the process using the bottom part of the flask, or drag. You should have two parts now, with the original in the middle. When dry, remove the mold from the box and very carefully split the mold to remove the original.

Place the mold back together and prepare the resin solution, follow the instructions to the letter. Pour the resin into the top of the mold, where you placed the cup. The set time for the resin should be stated on the bottle, but for most it will take up to 30 minutes. When ready crack the mold open and remove the cast.

Resin casting can be a great family craft project but just make sure to follow all of the safety guidelines. This type of casting can still be dangerous even though you are not dealing with molten metals. Often times, the solutions and chemicals used in resin casting are poisonous if consumed. Not to mention that resin casting can be a bit smelly so working outside or in a well ventilated room is advisable.
